Welcome to the National Guard Association of Michigan

The National Guard Association of Michigan (NGAM) exists to advance the interests of the Michigan National Guard. Formed in 1956, NGAM has a 60-year tradition of providing services to its members and support for their families.  In 1962, we were incorporated as a 501(c)19 non-profit veterans organization.

Legislative Efforts

NGAM is the premier advocacy organization for the Michigan National Guard.  We work to transform our member’s ideas and needs of the National Guard into legislative action.   NGAM provides a voice in Washington and the State Legislature to educate Congress on the roles, capabilities, and requirements of the nation’s most dependable military force: the Michigan National Guard.

Member Benefits

NGAM Members enjoy a variety of benefits that include everything from insurance and other life enhancing programs to various discounts and privileges with a variety of NGAM business partners

veterans support Grant

The NGAM Veterans Support Grant is dedicated to providing financial assistance to all veterans, regardless of branch of service, when they are affected by personal financial hardship.

Legislative Priorities

Tricare Reserve Select:

When National Guard Members are activated, they are placed on Tricare, even if they were on Tricare Reserve Select.  When they get off Active Duty, they are not automatically placed back on Tricare Reserve Select, and when their premium payment is not received, they are prohibited from signing up for 1 year.

COVID-19 Presumption:

NGAM is supportive of COVID-19 Benefits for Active Duty Servicemembers, the Reserve Components, and their Survivors Act of 2020.  This legislation would create an avenue for guardsmen to apply for disability compensation if they develop a disability or illness as a result of exposure during a COVID-19 Activation.

100% In-State Tuition:

NGAM is, and has been, advocating for Michigan to provide 100% tuition benefit to Michigan National Guard Members.  This would be applicable to all State Funded Institutions of higher learning.  The benefit we are hoping for would apply to National Guard members who are pursuing up to and including a Bachelors Degree.
